Create a Simple Wire-Wrapped Labradorite Pendant

Create a beautiful piece of jewelry that showcases the magic of Labradorite! This simple wire-wrapping tutorial is perfect for beginners. You’ll end up with a stunning, one-of-a-kind pendant.

You Will Need:

  • One Labradorite cabochon (an oval or round stone around 25-30mm works well)
  • 20-gauge round dead-soft wire (copper or silver-colored)
  • 26-gauge round dead-soft wire (for weaving)
  • Chain for your necklace
  • Jewelry pliers (chain-nose, round-nose, and wire cutters)

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1: Create the Base Frame

  1. Cut about 12 inches of 20-gauge wire.
  2. Bend the wire in half over your cabochon to create a “U” shape that fits snugly around the top half of the stone. This will be your bail and frame.

Step 2: Secure the Stone

  1. Cut a long piece of 26-gauge wire.
  2. Lay the frame over the stone. Begin wrapping the thin wire around the base wires at the bottom of the stone to hold the frame in place.
  3. Continue wrapping up the sides, ensuring the stone is held securely. Keep the wraps tight and even.

Step 3: Create the Bail

  1. The two ends of the 20-gauge wire will be at the top. Twist them together a few times to form a strong base for the bail.
  2. Using your round-nose pliers, curl these wires into a loop to create the bail that your chain will thread through.

Step 4: Finishing Touches

Thread your chain through the bail, and your pendant is complete!

Trim any excess wire and tuck the ends in neatly with your chain-nose pliers to avoid sharp edges.

Gently adjust the wire to ensure the stone is centered and secure.
